Hi Scott,
You may not remember me, however to jog your memory let me explain. I sat between Dennis Robbins and Todd Post while we were in boot camp in the military…..I mean room 305 Freshman & Sophomore years at MUSOD. I was that kinda crazy guy that sat in the back of the lecture halls and volunteered to “help” with the instructors slides when they would jam up. Sometimes even mysterious slides would get inserted when I “helped”. I’ll try to make this brief. So I’ve been a ham since 9th grade (1973 – WB9LZR) and I just recently got a 1×3 call sign. I wasn’t active from ~ 1979 -2004 however due to dental school, & kids & work & life…. you know the drill. Back in February of 2011 I, along with the rest of the world, learned all about the abduction & murders of Scott & Jean Adams in the media and, because I had gotten back into ham radio, in QST Magazine. This prompted me to start reading the blogs of their Quest voyages and I kept their website in my bookmarks on my computer. I found all their photos, stories & descriptions of the out of the way places and exotic islands fascinating. It was also kind of eerie to read them considering what happened. Well, I never finished looking at all the links on their website and recently went back – and in doing so YOUR name came up. I then realized that this is the guy I went to dental school with. I distinctly remember you describing to me how you sailed from California to Hawaii during our first year in prison…..I mean dental school. If my memory is correct I think your dad worked for one of the studios in LA. I then started looking at your sailing blogs, photos and videos (I always thought swimming with dozens of sharks was a bad idea) and found that they were also very entertaining. On a much sadder note, I was also sorry to learn about your wife Cindy’s passing. From what I could gather from your blog entries you must be retired from dentistry, living in Washington State and planning to sail in 2013 again. If you do end up getting this e-mail let me know how things are going and what you’re up to. As for me, I actually was originally from the Milwaukee area and moved to Janesville, WI right after dental school. I’ve been in the same practice for 29 years here and still like doing dentistry despite what the insurance companies are trying to do. My wife Diane and I have 3 kids, 2 boys in college and one girl that is a Senior in high school.
I hope everything is going well with you and give me an update if you can.
Happy New Year & Regards,
