The Southern Most Tip of the African Continent
Cape Agulhas Light – a candidate for James Taylor’s song, “Lighthouse”
Daisy Rowe was the infant daughter of a light keeper in the late 1800’s

Agulhas Light is undergoing a one year renovation and is not currently open to the public

Scott and Nikki, between two seas…..
Cape Agulhas (The Cape of Needles in Portuguese) has an interesting phenomenon. The compass needle here points true north. But just to the east and west, it shows a 25 degree magnetic offset. No one really knows why?
Agulhas Light Rennovation
Lighthouse and original “keepers house”
In South Africa….take these signs seriously
About the lighthouses of South Africa where more than 2000 ships have been lost in the last 500 years
The light was built in 1848

Downtown Ladismith in the “Little Karoo”
“Towerkop” overlooking the town of Ladismith
Legend has it that a lovers quarrel caused the split in Towerkop peak
Andy & Penny Hillock’s – Myerming B&B….Ladismith
Andy takes his guests on a hike
Myerming Winery fields where Andy and Penny Hillock grow their lovely fruit of the vine
Andy, Scott and Nikki on our morning hike above Myerming B&B
The lovely Ms. Woodrow
Harry loves to go on the hike. He’s Andy’s main man…:-)
The Myerming B&B with grapevines in the distance
Towerkop and it’s moods
Visible from Myerming, this was a beautiful setting
En route to Franchoeck (Wine Region), Andy suggested we have a stop at Ronnies Sex Shop
Ronnie’s is really just a bar and curio stand which changed it’s name from Ronnie’s Bar to Ronnie’s Sex Shop at the suggestion of one of it’s local customers
It paid off huge and is now a must see tourist stop despite it’s extremely remote location
Many ladies have gotten into the spirit of fun here and left their “unmentionables” as a momento to their visit
These personal items decorate the entire ceiling
At the same location is the “Roadkill Cafe”
Would YOU have lunch here? Really reminded me of driving through the US Southwest
Outside the Roadkill Cafe and Ronnie’s Sex Shop
Built a long time ago, not quite how they’d do it today
Baboons are everywhere in South Africa. Especially if there is people and FOOD to be scavenged around
Arriving in the Franchoeck Valley of South Africa
Our digs in Franchoeck’s scenic wine country
A lovely B&B – Le Petite Ferme
Restaurant at Le Petite Ferme is very well known in South Africa
Lovely outdoor restaurant seating
John Dendy Young founded the winery over 40 years ago. He’s semi retired as his son runs the property, but he does a wonderful tour
Showing us the grapes
John with a “Wine Thief” used to sample the aging process in the barrels. Many of these barrels are American Oak
Giving the tourists a taste
The wines of Franchoeck
John gives us all a taste. It was great and we bought several bottles

Huguenot Memoria
The Huguenots we’re French Calvinists. Persecuted in France for their beliefs, many emigrated to South Africa where the Dutch Reform Church taught the principles of John Calvin
