This was a 110 degree day where Scott had to fix an oil leak on one of the starboard engine alternators that just “fell off”……..Welcome to “boat projects in exotic locations, part infinity!” Isla Danzante, Sea of Cortez – Mexico Roca Blanca, Sea of Cortez – Mexico After a rinse, the name on our Welcome mat should through on to the teak grate below…. Sea of Cortez, Mexico Dive site Roca Blanca, Sea of Cortez – Mexico Isla Damien, Sea of Cortez – Mexico We had to get a LOT of boat parts and we heard our friends Clark and Vincent were coming from France to be the first legally wedded gay couple at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Cindy said please, and 17 hours and 6 military check points , we were in San Diego…. Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur – Mexico Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur – Mexico Terry, Mick and Joyce and Cindy and Scott went on a dive trip to San Juanico North… San Juanico North, Sea of Cortez – Mexico San Juanico North, Sea of Cortez – Mexico Punta Pulpo (which means “octopus” in Spanish) got it’s tentacles on this unfortunate vessel. We were en route to Isla Ildefanso in search of the elusive Hammer Head sharks. This is where we met our first “Chubasco” and the most northerly extent of our summer in “The Sea”…. Punta Pulpito – Sea of Cortez – Mexico On our dives at Isla Ildefanso, we didn’t find any Hammer Head sharks, but Scott found evidence that we weren’t the first divers ever here……Maybe this guy met the Hammer Head sharks?…..:) Isla Ildefanso, Sea of Cortez – Mexico As the daytime temperatures averaged OVER 100 degrees daily and the nights rarely below 85 degrees; we put up our windscoop that we got on the San Diego trip to catch any breeze we could. Sea of Cortez, Mexico Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur – Mexico We were almost directly under Tropical Storm Julio when it passed over Puerto Escondido. We never saw wind over 20 knots, but we got 8 inches of rain in 24 hours. The barometer was watched closely! Puerto Escondido, Baja California Sur – Mexico Terry told us of the spectacular waterfalls that occured right after Tropical Storms or even Hurricanes passed over Puerto Escondido. There were dozens of these very temporary but spectacular waterfalls on the East face of the Sierra Gigantes which rim Puerto Escondido. Loreto and the local roads were flooded. Terry got us all excited about diving with sharks and manta rays at the Revillagigedos (San Benedicto and Socorro Islands). We would head to Mazatlan the next morning and prepare for our trips to Copper Canyon, Cindy’s to visit everyone (and more boat stuff in LA and No. Cal) and prepare for our trip to the Revillagigedos (250 nm SSW of Cabo San Lucas) in December. Agua Verde, Sea of Cortez – Mexico Agua Verde, Sea of Cortez – Mexico Dawn found this very cooperative Octopus on our third dive together off Isla Carmen Isla Carmen, Sea of Cortez – Mexico Sea of Cortez, Mexico A different octopus. When the water was cool in the early summer, we saw lots. After the water got into the 80’s, these guys went deeper for the cooler water.
