A local within the last year was surprised by a hippo in his yard and it took his leg off!…Not kidding. The chap survived.
You can see they can get a bit ferocious in settling disputes
Many hippos go to local hotel swimming pools when the water becomes too salty from the ocean

Despite their non meat eating status, more people are killed annually in South Africa by Cape Buffalo AND Hippos than any of the “big cats”
